Winter Storm bringing snow to Bay Area parks: News Update

Mt. Diablo covered in snow, December 2009.

Update: Only the summit of Mt. Hamilton, the Bay Areas highest peak, has received a significant amount of snow.

Unless you have been living under a rock the last few days it would be hard not to notice the arrival of the seasons first big winter storm. Major rain is expected, but as temperatures fall overnight snow may also fall in the high ground around the Bay Area.

Snow will almost certainly dust the summits of both Mt. Hamilton & Mt. Diablo but may extend down into the Santa Cruz Mountains as well. Varying reports have the snow line between 2,500ft and 4,000 feet. The Mid-Peninsula Regional Open Space District reports it is expecting snow in the Skyline Area.

List of Bay Area Parks which are likely receive snow:

  • Mt. Diablo State Park
  • Joseph D. Grant County Park
  • Sierra Azul OSP
  • Skyline Ridge & Long Ridge OSP
  • Ohlone Regional Wilderness
  • Castle Rock State Park
  • Have fun, be safe, and enjoy what should be a wild weekend!
