News: McAbee Entrance of Quicksilver County Park Closed

The Guadalupe Trail. Most easily accessed from the closed McAbee entrance.

The San Jose Mercury News reported today that part of Almaden-Quicksilver County Park has been closed due to the release of a methane biproduct from a nearby landfill into McAbee Creek. The McAbee entrance to the park, near Castalero Elementary School, was closed after rangers reported the strong smell of methane gas.

Park Officials do not know if the biproduct released by the Guadalupe Rubbish Disposal Company are harmful to humans or animals but have chosen to error on the side of caution and close down that side of the park.
